Since he never said "whoops, that was a mistake" it appeared as if he was standing by the comment, even as the "what the fuck?"
There was no indication one way or the other whether he stood behind the comment, but that's kind of irrelevant anyway, given the nature of the comment.

Most folks simply rated the comment as written, I would think. At least, that's what I did.

I don't know why some folks are interpreting a rating of the comment as a judgement of the commenter.

You HRed an awful comment. That is what you are supposed to do. It is not up to the reader to decide if a person gets banned or not; all that we are supposed to do is to HR offensive, inappropriate comments.

      •  Well, I'm starting to take this seriously... (0+ / 0-)

        ...myself, now.

I feel like I've suddenly been targeted for criticizing the uprates of the comment.

I got HR'd for it by Just Bob and now poligirl is forwarding my profile to that spinning vase guy. The guy with all the vowels.

Maybe I should have remained silent. I wasn't even involved, except for my HR, until folks started uprating the comment. That's when I got pissed off.

I think that it may be time for me to find a more progressive website. Somehow I don't expect to be around here for long.

        •  I'd say something in support of you (0+ / 0-)

but am too cowardly. I don't want to be targeted myself. The problem with this site, if there is one, is not that it is not progressive enough. It is that it has got too many immature people. I'm not saying that, I'm just repeating what I've heard.

          •  Well, every site has problems, and there are... (0+ / 0-)

            ...usually more than one.

I wasn't expecting this to turn into a problem, however.

I was just posting in a diary that later got deleted out from under me right as I was HRing a comment that I saw there.

Suddenly, it seemed like the whole site blew up over the comment that I had HRd.

I pretty much ignored the whole thing, even with all the insults directed towards those of us who HR'd it, until the comment started collecting uprates.

Maybe I should have remained silent and continued to ignore the whole controversy.

            I don't know.

Now I just keep clicking on my userpage and checking for a "spinning vase of doom".

            So far, no vase.

Maybe I'm just getting paranoid in my old age...lol.

            •  Stop worrying about it (0+ / 0-)

Really. Some folks have made way more hay out of the fallout than was necessary since this diary originally posted (and I'm not referring to the diarist).

The "rules" under discussion in this particular thread, today, are little more than speculation on the part of a certain well-known concern troll. Do yourself a favor and keep right on doing whatever it was you were doing up to this point. You're fine.
