But agricultural skills are marketable here in New York City, though I do not know to what degree:

The focus is on growing low-impact, environmentally sustainable food products near population centers where they are consumed. It's a boutique industry, obviously, but there are businesses in this market and it looks like they have customers.

    Beyond this ...

It's really easy to tell workers to move or to retrain for new job categories. The reality is that projected job growth for the next 20 years is all about job categories that pay low wages:

The exceptions are technology and, I guess, "educational services," though given the fact that states have laid off hundreds of thousands of teachers since this BLS report was made ...

Well, it makes that projection seem a bit unrealistic.

We're told to "move on" or "retrain" -- but for what? The answer here appears to be that we should retrain to be home health aids, who make minimum wage, or less if employers can get away with it.

And while wages are not at all where they should be, it's not all min wage out there either. There is a big, huge country out there. I do support retraining assistance and moving assistance.

If you're a machinist in michigan though, there are a LOT of opportunities more south. Sure, they're not for the same wages as you're used to, but is it really worth not taking a job at $15hr plus OT opportunities because you were used to making $30 at a job that hasn't existed for 2 years? Or wait out the US's trend of median income dropping for the past 30 years?

I see what you did there.

They are a medium walk from where I live. Sadly, I can't even get in the front door to survey their operation. Literally, they won't let me in.

There's competition developing in the field, so I think they might worry about spies.

But I'm still going, long-term, to get into that if at all possible.

A friend in my business is looking at Occupational Therapy. If I can get a base and financial aid, I might look at that as well.

      Or 3D printing.
