  •  Excellent points. I was homeless after losing my (18+ / 0-)

estate, career, and everything to a 10 year bitter divorce battle that led to depression and some other wicked health issues.

It took me way too long, of "excess suffering" before I could get over my pride as a former famous CEO, to learn where the homeless shelters, food kitchens, good will places were

Also, most churches serve coffee and donuts, and other snacks, at their weekly services, and they do not seem to mind the "donut Christians" who come in for digestive as well as spiritual inspiration.  Plus a lot of these people well know many of locations of the nearest soup kitchens, etc

Also, after I lost my health care, I couldn't get my needed prescriptions for blood pressure etc, until I found that there are places the homeless and poor can get these for free in mobile health vans that show up at various churches on a weekly bases, or eventually even better in Massachusetts, Mass Health, will cover all the medical care of anyone making under the poverty level.

We are actually like a bubble of the future Obamacare (aka ACA) which is actually excellent for the neediest.

But, the key thing is to get plugged into these systems before the situation become desperate.  Because at the very bottom, even getting to the places one needs to go to starts to become so logistically, and psychologically challenging, that for me in a severe state of depression I retreated to staying in bed in more former estate for six months before they could foreclose.

Hang in there and discover and use all the services available to you.
