    In part, because employers can get more out of the same employees while paying them less, since it can be hard for them to find a new job.  Working longer hours for less pay and unable to do something about it.

      Commodities have stopped soaring, the interest rate on government bonds from stable governments is below inflation, real estate is weak and mortgage rates are low as well.  Therefore money goes into the stock market.  Add to this corporations trying to shield themselves from vulture capitalists or incensed shareholders by buying up their own shares like mad.
