  •  There are lots of people who own guns and (0+ / 0-)

don't, never have, and never will belong to the NRA.

Keeping up the flaming rants against all guns and all gun ownership will assure that at least half of America writes you off as a "nutty liberal".

Gun owners support background checks, a gun registry, and safety training.   Criminals and kooks do not.  So if you want to take on a culture, I would suggest the hooray for me and the hell with you guys crowd for starters.   It is  the poverty and ignorance is good for the other guy because it builds character , aka austerity crowd, that's killing the country and its people in multiple ways:    denying health care, education, jobs, money, and peace  to an ever growing percentage of the population kills people.

I don't understand why the left and the right "fringe" don't coalesce on the fact that government does suck, identify the root causes of why it sucks, and take it down.

The NRA is a perfect example of what is wrong in our government.  To stand by and vetch about how good, law-abiding, sane gun-owners are being adversely impacted by taking on the insane NRA,  trying to get assault weapons off the streets, and create some semblance of a regulatory framework that will reign in gun violence,  only shows where you stand in this debate.  If gun owners support background checks, a gun registry, and mandatory safety classes, then they ought to stand up and say it clearly.  I have seen none of that coming from the gun "culture".  All we see is deflection, distortion, and whining.  I understand that you may feel uncomfortable in this debate.  I don't.

      •  The NRA is not government. (0+ / 0-)

The fact that government won't take the NRA on is one way the government sucks.  Some things should be obvious, like loving mom, apple pie, and Santa Claus.

The problem is that "you" clump everyone into a lump.    The "gun" culture is not what you are hearing from.  You are hearing from the criminals on kooks - on guns.   Making the distinction is critical if you want gun legislation to ever pass.   Maybe the next GOP Pres will get it done just like our Dem Pres is going to cut SS.
