    As there are a lot of districts that are going to have huge perimeters per area simply based on the geology of the States they are in.

      Which makes this not a particularly appealing method.

      Obviously, it's too simple to do that.

      But whoever put this together has taken that into account. For instance, if you go to MD-03 under "Interesting Gerrymanders," the description is as follows:

      "Many of Maryland's districts are hopelessly squiggly and their complicated coastlines will bias them toward appearing gerrymandered.  However, Maryland’s 3rd district does not benefit from that excuse."
