    More likely becomes like the Democratic Party of Oklahoma or South Carolina.

    I see what you're saying, but the Greens of this state simply don't have it together enough to become a serious force in the state. For one thing, California is the most environmentally conscious-state in the nation, has been for generations, and it's not even a partisan issue here. Schwarzenegger signed the bill giving us our (now finally active) cap-and-trade system. Their signature issue is already thoroughly mainstream. Also, the Greens haven't been able to win more than the odd SF Supervisor seat here, let alone a significant mayoralty or House seat. SF and LA just keep getting super-duper Democratic.

    Also, factor in a state Dem Party that has a decent-sized moderate faction (though one that generally gets along pretty well with progressives, and vice-versa) and the fact that large chunks of the Central Valley and the way north places like Redding are every bit as conservative as Idaho, and a complete collapse is unlikely.
