  •  Hey joe shikspack, what's cookin' your way today ? (7+ / 0-)

Off this morning to Cochiti Pueblo for a conditioning kayak on US Corps of Engineers Cochiti Reservoir on the Rio Grande.  Last Friday we were kayaking on Abiquiu Lake, another Corps project.

We had a great time , lots of water birds (Western Grebes) making strange calls and the clouds added drama to the desert mountain scenery of Cochiti.

Good long workout, working to get our paddle muscles in shape for upcoming trip to California, lots of fun.

Stopped off at the store on way home and now we cookin' ! Though these days we are back to being mostly vegetarian with some vegan, Jakkalbessie is headed over to the commons pool area to grill salmon, steak, and veggies, and I am trying out a new New Mexico recipe

Don't know why reading Grayson's diary made me think of the time we encountered this bad boy..... guess because he is so fearless and tenacious?  Hope the pic doesn't ruin anyones' supper !

Breaking :  it's raining just now in Santa Fe, a sprinkle with big gusty winds, but we'll take it.  As Bill Mckibben said recently, the drought in the 'Chile Belt' is bad.

    •  evening do... (5+ / 0-)

wow, it sounds like you are really getting a workout in your retirement. B)

i'm doing well.  we went hiking this past weekend in the smallish mountains in central pennsylvania.  i did a pretty long, largely vertical walk and my body has just about recovered from it.

thanks for the link to the grayson piece and the hyena photo.  i'm not sure why the one reminds you of the other, perhaps it's because grayson likes to throw out red meat to progressives? B)

        •  heh... (5+ / 0-)

the trail up was steep and very narrow with a number of switchbacks, on the way down, we just kind of said the hell with it and followed a wash pretty much straight down to the fire cut that led back to where we had parked.  since it had rained quite a bit in the past few days, the forest floor was quite moist and the trail was pretty slippery in places.  it was challenging, but i did better than i might have expected.  i didn't get winded or tired, just sore and creaky by the time i got back down to the fire cut.  the sore and creaky is mostly a legacy of lyme's disease rather than some of the other health challenges i've had over the past few years.
