  •  Great Post! (13+ / 0-)

    Been here, done this!

Multi-interviews, then never hear from them again, or get rejected for some minor skill mising. Long interview process, then the job gets "closed", for some reason. I have 30 years experience, in top positions, with major Co.'s, but it just doesn't matter!

Strike 1 - I'm 50yo!, Strike2 - I'm looking for mgmt position & decent $$! Stike 3 - I'm in the High Tech, IT, Systems world, where they can get an H1-B for 1/2 the cost!

So furggit about it, I'm toast! Since 2000, my periods of unemployment keep getting longer and longer between jobs, and the only way I can find them is through friends. I currently have a crap job 10 levels below my skills, where I get crapped on daily, but hey, it's work at least! Been trying for 2.5 years to get out of this hell hole, but no chance at all thanks to everything said in this post!

Welcome to post recession American 1% only recovery!

You have your right to your opinion, I will grant you that, but do not denigrate my right to mine!

    •  Time was (10+ / 0-)

they used to say 5-6 job interviews at different companies, would net one job offer, at least. If a company called you back for a 2nd interview, it was looking very good. If there was a mutual sense of a good fit, you were practically in the door.

I went through a period of active job searching that lasted from May to September of 2012. I totaled it all up. Literally, I went through 20 interviews at different places. I did not get one single offer, or even as much as a call-back for a second interview.

I have kept an open mind to the fact that I might not be the greatest interviewer, that there might be things I could do to improve. But easily the most important piece of the puzzle is, well, that there are no jobs.

It's rigged. It's not just you, or me. We are waging a fixed fight.

It's here they got the range/ and the machinery for change/ and it's here they got the spiritual thirst. --Leonard Cohen
