  •  Why do I have a sinking feeling that any reform (3+ / 0-)

coming out of the U.S. Senate will have huge breaks for employers of the H1-B and undocumented immigrants... and lip service for the non-citizens who've been living and working here for decades?

    •  I predict a flood of layoffs in tech jobs (4+ / 0-)

followed by new hiring as the illegal visa-overstays apply for those jobs - at half the wages!

      •  ... (0+ / 0-)

Possibly not. The reform has in place measures that make companies pay similar wages, and requires them to show that they have labor shortages.

and totally useless. Currently they are supposed to pay at the prevailing wage. The problem is that wage limits have huge and totally gaping loopholes which make them ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT.

The only protection for the American worker is limits on numbers. And this bill doubles, triples certain H-1B #s, and takes the ENTIRE CAP OFF in other areas.

This is going to DESTROY US HIRING of US STUDENTS.

        •  No it doesn't. (1+ / 0-)

Where do you get this stuff?

Companies do it NOW.  They fire American workers and bring in H-1B workers who take the job for half the money and work slave hours.

There are no protections for American workers in the bills being considered.

          •  That's because the "prevailing wage" is crap (1+ / 0-)

Prevailing wage is based on the job description. If you just lie totally and are totally blatant about getting workers to do things not in the job description, you can get away with totally gutting the wage scale.

And that is what is happening.

THe ONLY protection is keeping the #s of H-1Bs, J-1s, L-1s, F-1s, B-1, O-1, etc down. Everything else is bullshit.

And this bill totally blows the lid off of the #s. Double, triple, the H-1bs. No caps on green cards.

It's a fucking disaster. It must not pass.

And I wish people would stop calling this 'immigration reform'.
