    That is, whatever "profound" he's trying for.

    Most of Gregory's questions are not directly answerable, in that they do not move the discussion forward. At best, he simply persists with the same question, typically a "gotcha" phrasing, until he or the guest give up. Contrast this approach with Bill Moyers on PBS or Terry Gross on NPR. They knew/know how to bring a guest expert along, open the door to insights perhaps not even the guest had considered. Largely nonjudgmental, rarely threatening, never belligerent (except for once I can recall on Gross's Fresh Air, when her guest absolutely deserved it!)

    Tellingly, David Gregory is not one iota better after more than three years as MTP's host. Tim Russert was no paradigm, but he was miles ahead of Gregory on style and depth.

    With the prominent exception of Richard Engel, NBC has no journalists worth the term, only some good news readers, and many who have marginal talent. The good question-askers are all over at MSNBC.
