A democracy needs equality of political force--both sides need equal power or it becomes one sided.  Without strong labor voting blocs, and huge bankrolls, money from business wins.  See today's media--money buys truth.  Keynes advocated deficit spending on infrastructure during recessions, big business wants lowered taxes--who's winning?
Back in the 1960s, a well regulated mixed economy was the ideal.  Labor knew you couldn't trust businesses to "do the right thing."  Not the case today.  Economic inequality is the result of weak union leadership--again--that destroys Keynes, because focus stays fixed on the rich and famous.

Nothing will spark the rise of unionism when businessmen write the laws.  100 years ago, it took violence to overcome industrialists, if we don't hurry up, we will need that again.
