  •  Just finished the kite runner... (5+ / 0-)

Interesting book about a kid who grows up in Afghanistan the son of a rich man, a member of the afghani elite, who is forced to flee when the Taliban takes over.

Father and son relocate to San Francisco, struggle financially, secrets are revealed and the son comes full circle when he returns to Afghanistan and reconnects with his past.

Getting ready to read a sentimental journey by Laurence sterne which I found on the sidewalk in Brooklyn along with the aforementioned kite runner, moll Flanders by dafoe, and Orinoco by aphra benn.

I can't tell you how happy I am to learn my tbr pile can still consist largely of discarded street books, despite leaving SF where discarded literature literally litters the streets.0

Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. - Gandalf the Grey

    •  That's awesome (5+ / 0-)

I'll be going up to the Penn neighborhood this weekend, and am likely to find a few books.  The spring semester just ended, and the students are moving out...

      •  I like Philly a lot... (5+ / 0-)

Went to law school at Rutgers Camden and used to run across the Ben Franklin everyday down to south st and back.

My childhood friend is loosely affiliated with the Penn music dept teaching jazz guitar.  Can't wait to visi him in the very near future as work time permits.

I still have a number of good friends in that area I'm looking forward to catching up with now that I'm back on the east coast.

Good luck on the book hunting.  I'm sure there will be piles of them everywhere...
