    often at least gives the victim the possibility of running away or escaping with more minor injuries. A bullet can reach you even if you aren't that close to the shooter (just ask the parents of one of my little students, who was killed in his own backyard when a neighbor - not visible, and not very close, as this was not in a suburban neighborhood but in a rural area - decided to do a little drunken target shooting and hit the kid instead).

    And let's not forget bystander deaths or accidents - how many bystanders are accidentally killed by a stray knife stab? Or how many toddlers accidentally bash themselves in the head to death with a hammer?
