  •  Some background on Michelle Knight (6+ / 0-)

She was the first and oldest of the three women abducted in this case.  According to this article, she was 18 at the time she went missing in 2002, and had already given birth to one child.  The child in question had been taken away from her care by social services (no mention of the reason), so the police and other authorities had concluded that Michelle had simply ran away and closed the case.  Her mother didn't believe that, but she was the only person who bothered to care after a while.

I know that the police have a terribly hard job to do, but I firmly believe that, if they had done their fucking due diligence and looked into Michelle and Gina's disappearances with the same fervor as Amanda's, these women would have been found long before yesterday.  It's just shameful, and, sadly, all too common.

on particular serial murder investigation, and concur with you.

What the police need is to rise up above the evidence and leads that they pursue, to see if there may be a bigger picture.  Once they see connections they hadn't yet realized, they may be led to the solution.

It's like being on the ground as opposed to being up in a heliocopter.  From the ground, you can't see the whole situation.  From up in the air, you can see so much more.

for this.  It's obvious they didn't investigate the three captors on earlier occasions when they had been presented reason to.  Still all coming out slowly of course.
