  •  The only reason he voted "no" (12+ / 0-)

was because it would have been too much work to obey the law as written?

Please explain that reasoning to Gabby, Jeff, and make certain you tell her about JL Loughner's rights as you do so.

Oh, and I'm going to bet she can knock you over with a look.

Economics is a social *science*. Can we base future economic decisions on math?

before he decided to kill 6 people and injure 13. He had a "right" to have a gun.

    •  They could minimize the 'work to obey the law' (1+ / 0-)

To sell a car to a friend, or even to officially transfer ownership to a friend or relative, you have to do a little paperwork.  I think there are 'Auto Title Shops' that will do the paperwork for $20 or less, or you can get it done free if you fill out the forms and stand in line a little while at city hall or someplace like that.
If the paperwork is simple enough, the same kind of service ought to become available for doing a background check before transferring a gun.
Most folks who have guns must have internet access these days, and it would be possible to arrange for people to be able to do the background check by internet.  I wouldn't mind if government money subsidized the process.  Whatever it cost would be a good investment in public safety.
Maybe adding something like expedited internet background checks would give legislators like Senator Flake enough 'cover' to vote for universal background checks.

We're all pretty strange one way or another; some of us just hide it better. "Normal" is a dryer setting.
