  •  Just yesterday I was thinking of the every day men (13+ / 0-)

who just happened to be there when I was in a bind. I hope they know how much they mattered.

Once I was on a subway on a Sunday and this young guy was really intimidating.  He was standing very close suggesting a weapon. I was trying to act cool and un-bothered while I was thinking though scenarios.  I could not leave because the stations would be empty and another car might be empty as well.

Most of the other passengers were acting like they did not see it at all.  Across from me was a large man with absolutely no expression on his face but he was watching intently.  I focused on him.

At one point the kid moved back just a little bit, and the man quickly gestured for me to run to him.  I did.  He put an arm around me and the kid got off at the next stop.  He was really smart not to directly confront the kid.
