Now that I know what the big typo is to get banned I am going to be extra, extra careful from now on.  I wish someone would make a list of typos that will get you banned.  We all make mistakes.

that advocates putting a bullet in the head of any living person  is in bannable territory... even though comments can't be edited, a quick reply to correct is an option.

      •  Unless (5+ / 0-)

You have a diary you are tending and the diary in question is deleted before you realize the typo and then you are banned and can't even comment in your own diary that you were tending.

can still comment in a deleted diary, where right now we can't?

        •  No. (5+ / 0-)

But if you post your comment, read your comment, say, holy f*** what did I just post, you will have time to reply.

Clarification/apologies can also be made via helpdesk or other channels if something goes horribly awry.

We're not looking to ban people, realize. We hate doing it. The implication that we'll ban someone for making a typo is pretty far from what policy is or really what happened here; it's not often a "simple typo" turns into that level of crazy. When a deeply crazy comment like that comes down, shutting down the account is sometimes the safest way to proceed. (The account could be hacked, for example.) It's (usually) easy to turn it back on if it's just a mistake.

It's good to have you back, webranding.

And yes, Damn You Autocorrect!! :-) When we enable mobile-specific commenting, this is something I will definitely be keeping in mind in terms of having a very clear preview!

If for mobile/tablets, you could have dk specific spell check? I know there's modules out there in WYSIWYG editors.  And we use a shit ton of site specific words.

Bad things aren't bad! And anyway, there's mitigation!

quickly STILL hasn't been done; namely, taking the rare but not unprecedented step of deleting the comment itself from the site.

That STILL should be done, because no one should "stumble" on that comment. Yes, only a TU can see it in hiddens, but it's hardly breaking news that there are winger sleeper trolls who are DKos TUs. The fact that it hasn't been deleted tells me no one in DKos admin ever seriously believed it was intended the way it actually read.

There was absolutely no urgency in banning webranding, even temporarily. That could safely have waited on the outcome of the investigation.

              is especially bizarre.

Someone using a hacked account to post offensive comments would make their meaning crystal clear...

not write an extended comment that made absolutely no sense as it was literally written.

      •  There's more context that some may not know (0+ / 0-)

and that context makes the obvious less obvious.

Others have simply gotten old. I prefer to think I've been tempered by time.
