    ...is to protect and  defend the whole Constitution so why would willingness to defend the 2nd Amendment be surprising? Thar very service to the country and the Constitution, that sacrifice, is precisely what earns soldiers the respect they deserve.

    Also, the political, ideological and cultural chasm between military and general society is understandable and historical. The military follows the orders of elected civilians (i.e., the public) and policy should not be concerned with possibly alienating those in service.

    If I'm misreading you please advise but I think these principles are general. I have no problem with guns but the notion of affecting policy with concerns about soldiers' sentiment seems odd and, respectfully, ridiculous.
