it was "not working out" as well - the day I returned from buying and moving into my first home.  Tough times.  But after getting through all that I can say that I don't know how long I would have lasted since the brother (family business) I reported to was a scumbag extraordinaire.  Big family - some siblings fell to one side and some to the other.  I had the misfortune of working for one of the others who learned absolutely nothing from his father.

    •  Sounds like the third... (4+ / 0-)

...of the consulting firms I worked for. Small family firm in an old money suburb of Chicago, family were solidly Republican, at the start of the Reagan years. Work was steady, pay was low, and I left there to work for thr big consulting firm. Got along great with the Old Man, but not with his eldest son.

There was a slew of kids.  I worked for the middle one who was over marketing and HR.  His HR plan was - tell them (factory workers) whatever they want to hear but don't do it.  That is a paraphrase but pretty darn close to an exact quote.  I guess his first inkling that it wouldn't work was when I said we couldn't do that.  Then the prodigal son retunred after being away for a number of years and the special projects he was working on all petered out so... he got my job.
