    Maybe that poll that showed Colbert-Busch winning by nine points was inaccurate?

    •  I think there were three cats of voter (0+ / 0-)

      1) Hard Sanford voters who didn't even care about this stuff because he was a Republican
      2) Democrats who started hoping that their normal losing streak might end in the district with ECB

      and importantly
      3) Normally Republican voters disgusted with Sanford and contemplating a protest by going for ECB, the Green party guy (he did pull 4 points in the last poll) or simply not voting.

      The early polls measured a race with 1's and 2's and the 3's splitting all over.  There were more dems all in for ECB than reps all in for Sanford.  3's were less likely to know how they would vote, if they would vote, or admit to the pollster they would grit their teeth and vote Sanford.  As election day approached, 3's largely came home.  ECB probably did make inroads there just not enough.
