  •  The last few years have been hard on horses. (8+ / 0-)

The price of feed and many people not having the same income before the recession made it hard.  The federal lands and many of the tribal lands had hoses turned loose on them.  Then there are the owners who just plain neglect their animals.  I have seen some starving animals and I have seen carcasses too.  With cattle they should have been hauled to market and sold but sometimes the owners just let them die without water and feed.

Thank you for taking in Miskwaki, that is lucky horse.

    •  Yes, exactly. (7+ / 0-)

We've heard some ghastly first-hand reports from around the area (things I wouldn't repeat here, because they're simply too graphic).  But the ones who "just let them die" - that's where I lose all patience and all sympathy.  Here, we have multiple resources for turning them in before it gets to that point, so there's really no excuse.  But I'm profoundly grateful that this guy found his way here, and that we're able to help him.

Authentic Native American silverwork, jewelry, photography, and other art here.
