Doesn't have anything to do with departure from prior practice.  Cutting medicare to pay for tax cuts on the rich is "bold".  Cutting social security in a time of decreased savings, decreased pensions, and increased poverty is "visionary."  Cutting aid to the poor and unemployed during a jobless recovery is "deficit reduction".

On the other hand, wanting the people who crashed the economy and are engaging in foreclosure fraud to go to prison is "radical".  As is having a functioning department of labor or giving low-interest loans to students instead of banks.

It seems the word "radical", to McConnell and his ilk means nothing other than "something which helps ordinary people, especially if it's at the expense of those who can afford lobbyists."
