I watched the original Hawaii Five-O as a kid, and didn't remember any welfare scam episodes.

And according to the synopses at IMDB, there aren't any.

Then I checked the synopses for the current series (which is on Mondays, not Tuesdays, but DVRs take care of that problem).  Again, no welfare scams there either.

Rush needs to quit.  He's not even trying to make his crazy lies plausible anymore.

The IMDB synopsis for this week's Hawaii Five-O speaks of a couple that kidnapped children and used them to "collect money from the state." So, that part, at least, wasn't a fever dream on Rush's part.

Nevermind that I don't see how you could possibly use kidnapped children to collect benefits, and the rest of Rush's ranting is...well, Monkey Seance Theatre seems as good a description as any.

The bad guys were indeed using the kidnapped girls as the basis of a fake identity to collect welfare payments.  The initial victim wasn't portrayed as particularly Stockholmed that her presence wouldn't seem to help the fraud.  So the motive doesn't make much sense.  The main good guys even state that the motive doesn't make much sense which is just used to portray the bad guy as psychopathic.

The kicker?  It is then implied that the good guys torture the bad guy for the location of the recently kidnapped girl who releases the location of where she is buried alive so she can be happily rescued.  Why was she buried alive?  This also made no sense and was glossed over.

I have to say I've watched a lot of episodes of this show, but none of them made as little sense as this one.  Maybe it was because I read this diary first.

I'm actually mildly surprised they didn't pull the episode in light of recent events.  Maybe it aired before the women in Clevland were discovered.

Now that I think of it, the episodes frequently make this little sense.  It just in the grand scheme of things just makes up such a small portion of the episode.

        •  Missed commentary in the episode... (1+ / 0-)

thing that struck me was that the couple looked like typical Tea Partiers... Very white, but poor, "on disability", chip in their shoulders, self-righteous, and I think I saw a cross in the house....

Rush should be careful what he uses as symbols: those bad guys were DITTOHEADS....

I missed this one; it's not in the "plot synopses" but in comments, which I couldn't see from the episodes page.
