    •  I haven't done any diaries yet... (4+ / 0-)

...due to my clumsiness about posting links, photos, videos...but I will certainly try. Winter has one of the more interesting stories in music, and has lived long enough that he is now an elder statesman.

...have too much to say. We really just wanted him to say a few words to promote our festival. But, he did talk about jamming with B.B. King while a seventeen year old. Winter said King was suspicious that Winter and his bandmates were IRS agents! This was smoothed over, and Winter and King did play together...
He also described Woodstock as 'fun, but a muddy disorganized mess.' Said he doesn't really listen to young musicians...
Again, it was fun...but all these stories are well documented elsewhere.
As an aside, I used to think I was possibly related (we are not) to Johnny...because my grandfather's surname was "Winter" and my family used to live in Beaumont...Johnny and my mom were even students at Lamar U. at the same time.

...with blues and roots music performers, but this was more to get some sound bites for tv or radio spots. He was very nice, and I can't wait to see him at our festival this summer.
