    - win or lose. But an effective voice could win. Protecting Medicare in a state with such a large elderly population is an issue that can gain cross party support. He has been successful in his executive roles with FEMA (including the aftermath of a devastating tornado in small town Spencer, SD), and as COO/CEO of the ICC and with his own small business. The Republican candidate Gov. Rounds in contrast, made terrible business decisions that left the state in financial disarray. There has been a new governor in office since Rounds left, but it wouldn't be that hard to remind voters. And his family is well known to state residents and well liked.

    If nothing else, he gives a young Brendan Johnson and Herseth Sandlin more time to grow into better candidates for future races.
