I was going by population. Most of the states that have passed marriage equality so far are pretty small in population: DE, ME, VT for example. NY is the big exception. When CA passes it (not "if"), it'll be up to about 1/3 of the country by population.

(CA, TX, NY, FL, IL, PA, OH, GA, MI) account for a little more than half the US population. We should have 3 or 4 of them this year, and 6 of them by 2016.

Sometimes truth is spoken from privilege and falsehood is spoken to power. Good intentions aren't enough.

      •  My tally includes NY (0+ / 0-)

since we already have marriage equality here, and also IL, though the info I referenced was unclear about its status there.

Of the rest of your list, the only one I can see realistically getting within the next year is CA - the rest are all either blue/purple states but currently under the thumbs of Republican governors who would never sign such a bill (FL, PA, OH, MI) or so red (TX, GA) that I can't imagine they'll pass anything before the federal laws kick in.
