  •  Where was the outrage over this during Bush? (7+ / 0-)

December 2001, John Ashcroft's response to Democrats questioning the Patriot Act

"To those who pit Americans against immigrants, and citizens against non-citizens; to those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists, for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve. They give ammunition to America's enemies, and pause to America's friends. They encourage people of good will to remain silent in the face of evil."
February 2002, Tom Daschle questions US anti-terrorist policies, drawing this response from Republican Tom David:
"divisive comments have the effect of giving aid and comfort to our enemies by allowing them to exploit divisions in our country."
September 2009, Republican Paul Broun had this to say about Nancy Pelosi:
"domestic enemies of the Constitution" shortly after saying that "[Second Amendment] gun rights are actually critical to prevent treason in America."
Republican attacks on dissent since 9/11
    •  Also (!!!!) I so fed up with the (5+ / 0-)

Repubs for their self-righteous stance when (1) the administration has asserted CIA protections from producing all the information Congressional Repubs say they are being prevented from seeing, and/but (2) most of all, how short their f*cking memories are...  I remember in the Bush years Dems in Congress demanding all sorts of information about the now-verified falsity of the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, including threats of subpoenas to WH officials, and Bush and Cheney showed them their asses while Congressional Repubs said "tut tut," when they weren't ignoring Democrats' outrage at the lack of evidence of "weapons of mass destruction" never found.

NOW Cheney -- completely out of government -- is making noise about refusal to provide Congress with access.  Who the hell let HIM back into the room?  Remember the Senator -- Leahy or Dodd? -- who held out his hand to Cheney in the SENATE CHAMBER and Cheney responded "Go f**k yourself." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Republican hypocrisy is beyond unbelievable.

This is all they've got to continue to distract and obfuscate the public from the real issues confronting the country: (1) continued shitty employment and U.S. corporations ("job creators") collectively sitting on >$7 trillion in liquid cash, and (2) the ongoing and growing wealth disparity between the 1% and the 99%.

Serious political discussion of anything but those issues -- using Benhazi, gay marriage, abortion BS, etc., etc. is nothing but distraction and a smoke screen by Republican mouth pieces to avoid confronting these monolithic problems.

Americans who vote against their own interests are driven by "the human need to find a strand of significance that will hold everything together that isn't on TV..." (quote is from P. Roth in "Sabbath's Theater")
