  •  I wonder what kind of "dulcimer" he meant (0+ / 0-)

    It's a bit difficult to sing and play a hammered dulcimer at the same time - yet, supposedly, the Appalachian dulcimer was not widely known outside its home area at that time.

    Perhaps he was using the term generically, for "a stringed instrument plucked or bowed while singing". It's not like he was a trained musicologist, after all! :-D
