he'd already been baptized in the Methodist Church, but she was Baptist, so he had to do it again at that church. When they divorced six years later, the Baptist church fired her from her volunteer secretary position. When I was about 14, they allowed me to be the senior citizens pianist, and not a word was ever said about past history, or my mother being what they snidely called a 'grass widow'.

She was not allowed to wear a white dress at her wedding.

I didn't know my mother had been married before. I was at the funeral I mentioned in another comment. Some random dude chats me up and says your mother's first husband. I was like WTF are you talking about.

Went to my dad and he was like yeah that happened. Don't ever speak of it again. Never speak of it.

I was like you might have mentioned this to me. He joked, well you have our wedding pics, mom isn't wearing white. Didn't you know.

      I was like, nope.

some know, and some don't, and FSM only knows what would happen if everyone just told the truth, maybe.

Wasn't always the case, but now I am proud of it. When somebody tells me I shouldn't do this, well I often do the opposite. This is one line I have not crossed.

My gut is she was abused. Maybe why she works at a rape crisis center 24/7. Maybe why it was pounded into my head to treat women with respect.

she doesn't want to acknowledge now that she told me, but she did, and I saw enough to know that it was true.
