Because you can bet your ass the Republicans sure aren't going to let the Dems do the "60 Vote" thing the next time the Repubs are in the majority.

Actually, I wonder if the Repubs ever plan on being a "majority" anywhere again - except in the gerrymandered house, they are governing more and more like a party that realizes it might be a permanent minority party that rarely ever sniffs the white house or a senate majority.

Joan and I have noted this before in these types of diaries (and this was a great find on Cornyn, Joan), all of these acts taken together look increasingly like trying to grind the machine to a halt. "Halting" or "breaking" the government now, as Joan aptly put it, favors those that are quite content with America 2013 - - the wealthy, white, investment class.

It is a dangerous time to be making big changes, all the baby boomers are entering retirement age and changes responsive to the vast majority of the 99% threaten the comfort of the Republican constituency - who are quite happy in a world with record high dow levels, low interest rates, low inflation, high unemployment (the better to hire desperates, my dear) and historically low tax rates.

Life is real good for the people Repubs represent and they damn sure aren't going to let these "golden years" of the affluent, conservative and retiring right be "blemished" with concern for others and they don't care what they have to break to ensure it stays that way.

Blessed are the peacemakers, the poor, the meek and the sick. Message to Repug Fundies: "DO you really wonder "what would Jesus do?" I didn't think so.
