  •  No, it's CT (13+ / 0-)

When an announcment of an arrest of a guy with explosives is made, and the FIRST comment is, "I wonder if that big company is setting this guy up so that the deregulation of Texas won't be hurt"..sorry, that's conspiracy.

    Occams razor cuts deep.

    •  Bullshit (0+ / 0-)

Please stop the insulting insinuation. Again, people can speculate without wearing a tinfoil hat.

Nope, When an arrest is made and the LAW ENFORCEMENT officer drops the "hint" by saying "We don't know if the two are related" That's the biggest bag of crap, because now they are DIRECTLY related in almost everyone's mind. Like a magician doing slight of hand tricks... Look at the flash and the smoke and you will not be able to see clearly.

        that it--wait for it--invites speculation.

Jumping from  "are they related?" to "maybe the eeeevil company set him up to get out from under the liability" is pretty CT.

          •  CT is usually built on speculation (0+ / 0-)

            Not all speculation is CT.

However, speculating that some 80 year old small biz owner and his 70 yr. old manager cooked up a plot to have some innocent EMT arrested byt the feds to deflect attention from potential malfeasance - that is definitely speculation of the CT variety.

and unless I missed a thread, no one here is speculating that the business owner had anything to do with it.

You were right up there among the first to discuss that CT, although you apparently soon concluded the state was more likely to be the origin of consipiracy than the company (a nice bit of tin foil in it's own right)

                •  Go back and reread that thread, please (0+ / 0-)

nowhere do I start by speculating the owner did that, and then change to the state. Perhaps you misspoke?

The state of Texas has every incentive to take the heat off its own irresponsibility and malfeasance, starting with the fact that it wants federal aid.

If you don't think that's a reasonable speculation, you're naive. At best.

                  •  Sure (0+ / 0-)

                    It actually starts with

                    It would still be neglect
..since the company stored such a tremendous amount of ammonium nitrate onsite, had no blast berms or fire protection, and had obviously no security sysytems, as demonstrated by frequent theft of anhydrous ammonia.
                    Then someone suggests:
This guy could be set up
to take some of the blame ?
That seems to be speculation that he was set up to take heat off the company, which you rec; and respond to with:
                    My first thought exactly.
                    set up
why not try to take some of the heat off the fact that Texas' lack of business regulation
Shifting the focus from the company toward the possibility of the state arranging the "set-up"
Someone else then questions any focus on the "corporation"
If the fertilizer company was part...
...of a larger corporate entity, I might buy that.
                    To which you respond
the state has a bigger interest in finding a scapegoat than some corporate entity does.
Which says to me you still entertain the possibility of the company being responsible for the "set up", but think the state is the likelier conspirator in this case.

And no, it's not naive to think that's unreasonable speculation. Might it give the state a welcome break from the widespread criticism of the nearly non-existant regulatory system if there is something else to chatter about? Sure. But that is a far cry from somehow organizing a "set up" to get this guy arrested.

What's your scenario? Perry bribed the ATF guys to plant pipe bomb makings in the box Reed left with his neighbor? The box used to hold baby pictures, until the Texas Rangers snuck in one night and planted a pipe bomb?  Just how does this speculative "set up" play out?

                    •  So eager (0+ / 0-)

to smear  the old, tired, "it's tinfoil" bullshit around that you can't perform simple extrapolation.

My scenario is very simple. Pity I didn't draw you a map the first time, since you appear to have needed one.

It's a trial balloon that plants an idea. That idea is simple: if a person is responsible, then the state couldn't possibly be. At all.

How'd they get the cooperation of
                        1. the neighbor who says he told her he had a pipe bomb
                        2. the acquaintance who held, and then opened, the box?
