    we would need a different voting system, such as Ranked Preference (also called Borda Count) or Approval Voting. Either would allow you to vote first for whichever party you really want without taking a vote from the Democrats, whom you could place second or even third in Ranked Preference. Nader in Florida in 2000 is the most often-cited example of the problem this is meant to address. There are other systems that allow voters to express multiple preferences.

    (I know that Nader did not lose Gore the election by himself. Gore's advisers telling him not to run a real campaign, together with the Republican ganefs in FL and SCOTUS plus shocking bad luck on the butterfly ballot did that. Nader was merely one of a dozen factors that went the wrong way.)
