    What it says is, some of them withdrew their applications, rather than answer more questions.

      But we don't know how many withdrew, and for what reason.  I don't think we have evidence in front of us to establish that most tea party types are grifters.
      I just don't think this looks good.

        But if the IRS suddenly found itself awash in applications for 501c4 organizations pleading Tea Party as their cause, I would expect them to investigate. I'd expect them to investigate if they suddenly got a flood of any specific group of 501c4s, and not just to prevent some clown from trying to come up with some sort of clever tax dodge for himself. If someone is running a fraudulent 501c4, they might just as likely be defrauding donors -- such as the very same True-Believing Teabaggers who are going to think this was some sort of conspiracy to shut them all up.
