  •  The MIC is everywhere now, globalized like (0+ / 0-)

    everything else.  Certainly there are multiple interests in fanning the flames.  The enlargement of NATO is one as well as the continued justification of NATO.  I mean, the Cold War has been over for over 20 years, why should NATO even exist now except as a western imperialist global military domination force.  It certainly isn't to protect Europe from Russia.   But the primary interest appears to be the continued encirclement of Russia.

      In any society, the 'guns vs butter' debate occurs...and, wherever there is a standing arms industry, there appears to be a strong lobby supporting 'the guns'.  Of course, part of such support is what one might term the politics of 'threats', not to mention the arguable manufacturing of them.  And so, Nato and a strong military do have their advocates...one can only wish that those advocating for a 'peace dividend' may one day be as strong.
