but he nailed this one.  Religion = bad.  There are waves of violent and unstable acts committed by ALL of them.

Now where I will agree with Maher though is that no other religion RIGHT NOW has zero tolerance for blasphemy with lethal penalties as Islam does.  That has to be challenged daily.  I think the violent acts of the other major religions right now are happening not so much because of ideology but because of greed and a quest for power.  They are more cloaked in the theology.  While the general may be spouting "my god is bigger than yours" my guess is he doesn't necessarily believe it as much as he knows it's a motivator for the people under him to accept doing despicable acts.

When you can control people's behavior by teaching them what is moral and what is not by making up 'God's Will' for your own purposes out of whole cloth (call it a Revelation), when you can control their sexuality and limit their power, (see women, slaves, heretics), and create bigotry against all other beliefs, you will have the most unscrupulous rising to the top.

Fishtroller (or whatever his name is) above, namely that while it's fine to not be Christian, criticize Christianity, and so on, the assumption that Christianity is fundamentally violent (or fundamentally irrational or entirely wrong) is a prejudice.
