good idea, to force the president and his family to live like octogenarian pensioners? Really?

    •  The people (5+ / 0-)

I just copy down the will of the poor people as seen scribbled on walls. Me, I perceive the government as hopelessly bought out by the corporatists so I would not bother to make such a suggestion. But I do try to listen to The People and relay word from them, on this rather elite blog hosting place..

      Or orphaned children?

Or the octogenarians who are not "pensioners' because their pensions were taken away and the average Social Security benefit of <$15,000/yr is all they have left.

Chained CPI cuts into all these, plus it raises taxes on those in their families who might be caring for them.

How silly to think of connecting a President's harsh proposal to cut their little stipends with imagined discomfort for the President himself.

Personally, I would just like to see him make do for a week on it.  Perspective.

have no idea what it's like to be poor. Barack had no father, and for a time he and his mother were dirt poor. Michele grew up in the projects. Barack Obama is not going to do anything to hurt the poor. That is all bullshit.

        •  Respectfully, both the President and the First (0+ / 0-)

Lady credit 'exceptional educational opportunities,' and their upbringings as part of the reason for their vast and notable accomplishments.

So, please, 'let's give credit, where credit is due.'

Educational backgrounds of the President's Mother, natural Father and Step Father:

Ann Dunham, Mother -- PhD, University Of Hawaii at Manoa

Barack Obama, Sr, Natural Father -- Master's, Harvard University

Lolo Soetoro, Step Father -- Master's, University of Hawaii at Manoa

And, from Wikipedia, Maternal Grandmother, Madelyn Dunham

The Dunhams then moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where Stanley found a better furniture store opportunity, and Madelyn started working at the Bank of Hawaii in 1960 and was promoted to be one of the first female bank vice presidents in 1970.[2]

And, according to Wikipedia, while he lived with his Grandparents in Hawaii:

He [the President] returned to Honolulu at age ten to live with his maternal grandparents in the Makiki district of Honolulu, and enrolled in the fifth grade at the Punahou School. The tuition fees for the prestigious preparatory school were paid with the aid of scholarships.

Ann would later come back to Hawaii and pursue graduate studies; she eventually earned a PhD in anthropology and went on to be employed on development projects in Indonesia and around the world helping impoverished women obtain microfinance.

Also, here's an excerpt from First Lady Michelle Obama's Wikipedia biography:

Michelle grew up in a two-story house on Euclid Street in Chicago's South Shore community area. Her parents rented a small apartment on the house's second floor from her great-aunt, who lived downstairs.[4][16][17][18] She was raised in what she describes as a "conventional" home, with "the mother at home, the father works, you have dinner around the table".[19]

The family entertained together by playing games such as Monopoly and by reading.[20] They attended services at nearby South Shore Methodist Church.[16]

The Robinsons used to vacation in a rustic cabin in White Cloud, Michigan.[16] She and her 21-month older brother, Craig, skipped the second grade. Her brother is now the men's basketball coach at Oregon State University.

By sixth grade, Michelle joined a gifted class at Bryn Mawr Elementary School (later renamed Bouchet Academy).[21]

She attended Whitney Young High School,[22] Chicago's first magnet high school, where she was a classmate of Jesse Jackson's daughter Santita.[20]

. . . Michelle graduated in 1981 as the salutatorian of her class.[23]

          And per Wikipedia:

The First Lady went on to graduate from Princeton University (A.B.), and Harvard Law School (J.D.).

And, of course, the President's Alma Maters are Occidental College, Columbia University (B.A.), and Harvard Law School (J.D.).

          •  Yes, the president and First Lady went (0+ / 0-)

to prestigious colleges and graduate schools. That doesn't change the fact that they grew up disadvantaged, with all odds against them.
