  •  Cheers to good friends! (15+ / 0-)

I stayed with them in northern New Mexico last week.

Jeers to the Uranium mining of Mt. Taylor!  A consortium of companies is invoking the archaic mining law of 1872 to put in a mine.  The Navajo call Mt. Taylor (named by us after General, later President Taylor of Mexican War "fame") Tsoodził and it is one of the sacred mountains of theirs and the Pueblo tribes. They are, of course, against this desecration, but you know how the U.S. has paid attention to Native Americans! The Forest Service is giving until May 14th for comments.  See:
They say that their hands are tied and the "No action" alternative is not possible, so I'm not sure much can be done.  However Uranium contamination is already a problem in Grants and other communities and this will not help.  The mine will also use a large amount of precious water.  But you know -  Ayn Rand!  Every thing has a price and nothing has any value!

Cheers to having some rain (3 mm) in our area of New Mexico.
