  •  I Am A Huge Hiker/Camper (0+ / 0-)

pretty darn fit. I have wanted to climb. Heights don't bother me. My legs and calfs are like those of a Earl Campbell. Huge from playing tennis and golf most of my life. But I have zero ability to climb. I can't pull my body weight up, and I weigh 132 pounds. I can do it a few times, but not nearly enough to climb the side of a mountain.

    •  my first job out of high school was a tree trimmer (4+ / 0-)

It was routine for me to climb a 100-110 foot tree freehand, tie myself in to the top, lower myself all the way to the bottom, then climb back up cutting off each branch as I went. That left me perched atop a 100-foot telephone pole, which I then descended and used a rope tied at the top to pull the trunk over as it was cut.

Often I'd take my lunch up with me, and just spend a half hour swinging up there.

and I am 43. I love being outside. I am known to hug a tree. Or just lay in the grass. If I am on a date and a women says to me "hey lets go climb that tree" I might ask her to marry me on the spot :).

My other post here, Oh Yosemite El Capitan, features a guy that climbs Red Woods for a living. Lives in them. I mean how cool is that.
