  •  Disney World is one of my favorite (16+ / 0-)

places to vacation.  For about 6 years while in college, I was there at least once a year.  My favorite place has always been EPCOT.  I remember going a year after it opened during my birthday.  The original rides were the best they had.  It sucks every single one of them has been changed since then.

One thing I have done virtually every time I go is the Hoop-De-Do Revue.  it's cheesy, but we love it.

The first time I heard about Gay Day there, I thought it was great that they were supportive even if not in an official capacity so soon after the horrid Reagan years.

Here's to many more years of that special day.

    •  I started going to Disney World (12+ / 0-)

the year they opened. We spent a few weeks every summer in Florida with my maternal grandparents. Often, they would leave my brother with them even longer. My grandparents would drop us off in front of the gate and come back at the end of the day to pick us up. Two kids running around the Magic Kingdom unsupervised may not have been the best idea, but we had a ball. I know that a lot of people find the Disney corporation to be just another profit sucking machine, but they have always been a-okay in my book.

I was at a College Honors conference in Orlando my sophomore year of college.  There must have been at least three panel discussions on the evils of Disney especially the theme parks.  During one of the panels, I finally got fed up with it.  I stood up to make a point on how every business manipulates people to get them to spend more time and money to make a profit.

Signaling out Disney was, in my mind, petty.  And it was the year the Animal Kingdom opened.  I truly believe they chose to hold the conference in Orlando for that very reason.

To top it all off, all the attendees got tickets to SeaWorld which was right across the street from the hotel. ROFL.

      •  I'm kind of in the profit-sucking camp, but (10+ / 0-)

I have fond memories from my youth. I remember little snippets of Anaheim from when I was four. Actually, the only thing I remember was "it's a Small World". My parents bought me the record and I played it until my brothers disowned me and demanded that my parents put me up for adoption.

In my teen years, we went to Epcot and I loved very single thing we did there.

As an adult, we took Kgirl to TokyoDisney -- I couldn't wait to take her to "It's a Small World". And you haven't experienced the magic (by which I mean annoyance) of that song until you hear it in Japanese. Kgirl was unimpressed. She preferred pushing strollers around the park, generally with napping Japanese babies inside. We spent the entire day prying her loose of strollers and apologizing profusely to the parents.

Our last trip was when kgirl2 was still a baby. Everything went wrong and they weren't the least bit accommodating. We ended up checking out three days early and heading over to my parents' home. It was so bad, I've never considered going back.

But I love that they are so cool with Gay Days and ignoring the Dozen Moms. Maybe I'll rethink my ban of all things Disney...

    •  We have a couple of young ones (6+ / 0-)

And they both love The Mouse. We recently took them to Disney World in Florida, though they've both been to Disneyland as well.

My wife has been hinting that this Christmas we should let the Japanese one pick our pocket. I've got a lot of problems with the Disney mega-corp, but it is nice to see that they treat LGBT folks all right.

One less reason for me not to give them my money, I guess.
