    This theme has been driven home in the past week with a new Richards television commercial that recalls a series of Mr. Williams's gaffes, including a joke in which he said rape was like bad weather because "if it is inevitable, just relax and enjoy it." The advertisement concludes with an announcer asking skeptically, "Governor Williams?"

    Also, supposedly refusing to shake her hand had a factor in his decline.
