  •  The Second Amendment is an excuse (1+ / 0-)

for an irrelevant attitude. The Second Amendment is addressed to AGENTS of government and prohibits what agents are, apparently, often tempted to do -- i.e. turn on and try to limit those who hire them. The Second Amendment says nothing about the people who govern. It certainly doesn't guarantee any sort of right, human or civil, despite what the euphemistic title (Bill of Rights) seems to say. I say "seems," because, if you'll recall correctly, a bill refers to an obligation that is to be carried out by someone who's been hired and expects to be paid to perform a service.
In other words, agents of government are tasked with respecting the people's rights. But, of course, that can't be guaranteed. If the agents don't perform, they have to be fired.
We the people have not been doing good in the hiring and firing department. Like the master in the parable of the unjust steward, we have hired duds and we haven't fired them soon enough. So, they've been giving our assets away to their friends to "feather their nests." Changing some words in a document won't correct that lapse.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
