  •  Here we go. . . . (25+ / 0-)

Just saw on MSNBC an excerpt of a radio show with Sen. Jim Imhofe, he said it is THE biggest scandal - ever - and it won't be long before they start hearing the "I-word" (isn't that cute? HE won't say "impeachment" he will just say "I-word").

Interesting that the Repubs know that impeachment is a possible tool for the biggest scandal ever, just don't really know yet what went on that is scandalous.

We are through the looking glass. And, if the Repubs manage to "impeach" (and who doesn't doubt they are dying to try) 2 democratic presidents in a row, it will either be their downfall or repub-corporate-plutocracism should just be declared.

Oh, and the Pres between the two impeached dems?? He had 9/11 - refused to testify under oath, lied to war, tortured. . . .

    •  You have obviously forgotten (11+ / 0-)

9/11 was Clinton's fault.  Bush kept America safe from attack during his two terms in office.  It wasn't until Barack Obama took over that America was attacked again on 9/11 - an attack that was easy to predict and should have been prevented.  Didn't you see the memo "Al Qaeda determined to attack US on 9/11"?

You must have seen all this and dismissed it - thereby endangering this country.  Dirty librul commie pinko.

      /all jest, no malice intended.

I want the Republicans to try impeachment before 2014's elections.  I think that's the only hope for getting rid of Republican control of Congress, though it might also work the other way to elect enough Republican Senators to get the Impeachment actually considered by the Senate.

      •  I wonder how the country will respond. . . (9+ / 0-)

I am genuinely curious as to how the country will respond to the first person who stands up and says:

"Benghazi is a "scandal" b/c Repubs need a scandal to unleash upon the President, and it appears that if a democratic President gets a second term, it is now in the Republican platform that they will bring impeachment proceedings"

I wonder if a few moderate repubs in the country will not think to themselves, "yes, I am tired of this power game being played" and that the country is 60-75% against it, making the Repubs pay a huge price.

OTOH, there are a lot around here, including me that feel that the Republicans are signaling that they have given up hope of ever being a majority party again and are simply sharpening the tools of how to govern from a minority.

you want the Rs to try impeachment next year? really?

we know they are already thinking it, with all their cute crap about "the I word".

all this Benghazi nonsense, and now the unfortunate incident with the IRS, is laying the groundwork for articles of impeachment that could really muck things up next year.

since Rs control the House, articles of impeachment would definitely pass.

Of course there is no way Republicons pick up enough seats in the Senate to get to 67 votes, but still.  Do we really want to go through that?  Are we sure it would tip the midterms our way?

Politics is like driving. To go backward put it in R. To go forward put it in D.

Republicans yet - at least they're not likely to vote out enough Republicans to tip the balance in the House.  But an impeachment effort might get us there.

I don't think much will get through Congress in the election year anyway due to all their posturing (which sadly means gridlock is a permanent Washington situation since they're always in campaign mode), so it won't be like meaningful good stuff will be pushed aside while Impeachment sucks the oxygen from the room.

If they try it, I would also hope that maybe, just maybe, President Obama directs Eric Holder to dig through those moldering old files detailing war crimes by the last administration and investigations actually take place.  I would love, love, love for charges for war crimes actually be filed against members of Bush's regime that will be used to counter these Benghazi or whatever other crimes are used to try and Impeach Obama.  Torture, killing prisoners, renditioning, warrantless wiretaps, lying to Congress - I have no doubt what went on within Bush's administration is far, far worse than anything they have on Obama.

Yes, I do hope the Republicans try it, because I think it would finally blow up the Republican party permanently, there would finally be charges against the war criminals and other evil-doers and maybe, just maybe, this country would purge itself of the rut it's in.
