It always brings out the crazy into the light of day, where it don't look so good.

    •  That is often what my husband does at his job (0+ / 0-)

and also he does not socialize with coworkers outside of the job. He says they spend enough time together as it is.  Now he will confront and call out bigotry especially racism and homophobia. But he cannot do that with customers but with coworkers, yes. He will sometimes engage in a debate in the lunchroom with one or two of them but he watches that it does not get so heated that it affects their working relationship.  So he just laughs at some of the teabauchery floating around or rolls his eyes at them.

It is tough on the job as we have to work with some people that we would not be friends with outside of the job.

I had a wise boss who said this when employees would argue and fuss and fight.

You do not have to be friends outside of work. You do not have to socialize outside of work. You do not have to be friends. You do not have live with each other. But you do have to work together in a way that is productive. You do have to show some civility and act like professionals at work.
That is the good thing about work vs a family or personal relationship. We do not have to socialize with or spend personal time with coworkers. But with friends and family, it is tougher and choices have to be made in those cases. With coworkers, often we can try to keep the topic off politics and keep focused on the job duties instead.
