Where is the scientific community? The university systems? Why aren't they being more aggressive putting down the anti-science morons?

Science has only ever been a minority taste.  Dumb monkeys vote, march, donate, and blog for dumb monkey reasons, not for human reasons.  And scientists and academics know perfectly well who pays them, and that they have everything to lose by defying them.

You'd need some kind of technocratic dictatorship where the Council of Sapients sets policy, to be implemented by a corps of engineers.  But since academics are intellectually and emotionally unsuited to leadership - far too abstract and circumspect - you'll end up with a system corrupted by hucksters, paralyzed by internal politics, and under siege by demagogues.  Just look at China; whatever good intentions and pretensions to technocracy Beijing might have, they're basically held hostage to local officials in bed with powerful business interests.

Instead of nullification or secession what we have is disintegration. Its not a Civil War, there is nothing civil about it. Our communities are no longer well organized or homogeneous as regards attitudes and values.

I can't even see it as blue state young urban diversity v red state old entrenched rural evangelical homogeneity because a part of our urban diversity comes from our older relatively homogeneous hoods with traditions of ethnic and cultural bias that go back a long way.

In places with denser populations it might be expected that the intelligence bell curve provides a critical mass for an explosion of scientific bias toward ideas that won't be found very well developed among smaller rural evangelical communities where the intellectual stimulus comes from a pulpit built prior to the last civil war.

I'm not even sure we want our society to be actively trying to put down the anti science morons any more than it already does because that leaves us with a permanent underclass easily swayed by inflammatory media  that can best be described as an angry mob.

What I'd like to see us united around is the idea that climate change will kill us all if we don't learn to put all other issues aside and work together to redistribute all of our energy and wealth toward the solution of this problem.
