    at first glance it looks like partisan politics at its worst and should not be defended just because those suffering are on the other side.

    But reality is that this probably had nothing at all to do with partisan politics but rather a form of profiling for very specific anti-tax politics that leads people/groups to break tax law.

    I spoke with a friend that worked for the IRS many years ago and he said that this sort of thing pre-dates the tea party and has been applied to individuals who identify is one form or another as "patriots" or a few other terms because it was a strong clue that these were people who refused to pay their taxes.

    So is it political? Yes, sort of, as a side effect. But in reality this is a practice designed to catch people most likely to be breaking the law these people are assigned to enforce.
