The reality is that property taxes nationwide have increased as a percentage of property value.

Are Chicago teachers asking the working and middle-class residents pay a higher tax rate on their property?

Mostel, it's easy to argue against school closings as a teacher.

It's much more difficult to put forth a plan to avoid school closings.

Is just right-wing free market nuttery made palatable to liberals. Your framing of teachers vs. taxpayers is cheap.

The savings from those school closiings will be minor. The school board announced some larg saviings, and then admitted that those figures were false.

Also, the schools got labeled "underused" by inventing some new criteria. There are limits to how large a class can be under federal guidelines for special ed. The school board cited the school as underused because the special ed classes weren't much larger than they could legally be.

How about that? Many other nations seem to have that down pat. We need more direct action here, like protests in Chicago, to force the system more to the left. Although that should not need to be stated on a progressive web site.

where the union has the support of the residents and the mayor who is pushing this is deeply unpopular.

You are imposing your own narrative on the facts.

Also, CTU has a plan. Did you know that?
