  •  Well, I don't think anyone was using the IRS (9+ / 0-)

as a political weapon. And the head of the IRS at the time was a hold-over from the Bush administration. The President hasn't appointed a replacement because, probably, he knows he can't get one confirmed and it's not a top priority. So there's the IRS thing. I believe their explanation. Frankly, what we should be talking about here is Citizens United which was the cause of having so many applications for groups like that to begin with.

The AP thing is different. That wasn't illegal. It was freaking stupid, is what it was, dumb dumb dumb, but it wasn't illegal. Probably. Because why? Because PATRIOT act. Which is what we really should be talking about here. If there's any time ever when "both sides do it" is true, it's when you have this kind of government overreach under cover of legislation nearly everyone supported and both parties have used.

It doesn't function, jbou, and you're right--it probably won't here. Because we're going to talk about everything but the root causes and the possible solutions to them.

These kinds of "scandals" exacerbate the craven instincts of the political animal to bite, scratch, claw, screech and ambush at the slightest provocation and in the stead of reasoned, measured discourse and action.

I resent that. I demand snark, and overly so -- Markos Moulitsas.
