  •  Actually the AP scandal doesn't have teeth. (8+ / 0-)

The DOJ properly supeonaed the records to find a leak who was providing national security information including information on a covert operative to the AP which is a crime.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with their investigation.

with broad sweeping, unfocused telephone records subpoenas, if it is on a citizen or media, especially when all other avenues have not be fully pursued.  Furthermore, selective leak prosecution undermines belief in the system, and can present the appearance of political motivation.

This is not one to circle the wagons on.  Holder isn't, why should anyone on this site.  It isn't helpful to the Admin to pretend this is ok.

      •  It wasn't broad, sweeping or unfocused. (3+ / 0-)

You should do some more research before jumping to conclusions.

I have seen no reporting to support your claim.   If the reporting so far is accurate, I am extremely comfortable with my characterization.   I would be interested in understanding your basis for the assertion that contradicts the facts as identified in this letter and secondary sources I have reviewed.

          Unless this reporting is incorrect:

In a sweeping and unusual move, the Justice Department secretly obtained two months’ worth of telephone records of journalists working for the Associated Press as part of a year-long investigation into the disclosure of classified information about a failed al-Qaeda plot last year. The records listed outgoing calls from more than 20 work and personal phone lines in April and May 2012, the news agency said. It said the number of employees who used those lines during that period is unknown but that more than 100 journalists work in the targeted offices.
          I stand by my statement.

There was a bill before Congress that would have prevented this but, guess what, the republicans did not allow it t come to a vote.
