View Diary: Why are you all just reacting to GOP propaganda instead of setting your own agenda? (166 comments)

And I posted a diary just before yours to highlight something that isn't getting much attention in all the current hoopla.  Even with that the Republicans are still onstage.  I've come to a different understanding about this recently.

The political process would work better if there was a separate entity that criticized partisans instead of partisans criticizing each other.  The press?  If it wasn't such an abject failure.

    •  Why do you think the Press is such a failure? (4+ / 0-)

Are you one of those who chalk it up to mere laziness? Please don't!

Absolutely! Unfortunately, the answer to that is that our press was deliberately fucked over by a "district court" in Akre/Wilson vs. New World. If our courts weren't so full of FAIL, we'd still have a press with teeth.

Our Press was sliced, diced, bought, sold, sold-out and incorporated, its real reporters reduced to dictation duty if they want to continue making a living.

corporations. All their interests lie with the rightwing.

The 1st amendment is what corrupts them, press freedom is the willful surrender of the organ of civilization to information warlords. We had a brief period when the press wasn't half bad, which like everything else that was only good about this country once, was during the New Deal regulatory anomaly. While content wasn't regulated, business practices were severely limited and there was heavy public service requirement put onto broadcast.

The only time we came close to a good journalistic press was when the press was least free.

      •  One of my degrees was in Journalism so I'm (3+ / 0-)

opinionated about it.  Maybe I'm an idealist, too.  For sure a lot has happened to get things to the way they are today.  Too many things to list.  I saw Amy Goodman from Democracy Now one time sitting as a pundit on a panel discussing the media.  She said the newsmedia in the US is complicit in delivering lies to the public and there was a very awkward silence when she stopped talking.  Never saw her on any cable or network show again after that.

I might say reporters are lazy out of my own laziness.  That's not really it.  It's more like go along to get along. What bothers me most is the taboos.  To me it seems that the public isn't getting all the information it should.
One example, is the role of the CIA in Benghazi.  Just this morning one of the talking heads on MSNBC tip toeing around that topic.  It's like it's radioactive.  Nobody wants to handle it.

is so neutered....I don't give a rats ass about the IRS thing or the Benghazi thing.  But This AP story really grabs me by the balls.  It's not just about AP trying to promote itself.  It's about freedom of the press.  And the Press's freedom to report on government.

I honestly believe that this is the most egregious case of executive overreach in the past 15 years.  I may be in a minority here in that opinion...but it's my opinion.

I cannot, and will not, defend this Administration in this affair.

Holder could have been this aggressive on any number of fronts...starting with Wall Street.  He wasn't.   Don't give me any shit about the DOJ being separate from the White House.

It's part of the WH.  And we now see who the WH sees as the true enemies of democracy....it isn't bankers.  It's journalists.

      Fuck this White House.
